Some of the lines of questioning senators from both parties pursued demonstrated they aren’t exactly the most tech-savvy bunch, aren’t entirely clear on how Facebook works, or maybe have just never used the platform. Or they included some colorful anecdotes about their own social media use. This happens every time the rich and powerful are called to testify before congress. It's a show trial to placate the public to give the appearance of accountability and that congress is doing something. But in reality, they pass no laws and only ask soft questions because the rich donor class is who they depend on to fund their campaigns. We should have all learned this lesson after the great recession when all the bankers testified, which was by far the most egregious show trial congress has ever put on.
